Sugar Land man survives major 18-wheeler accident

Posted on Thursday, March 15th, 2012 at 6:39 pm

A Sugar Land man is lucky to be alive after an 18-wheeler over turned on top of his car on the Dallas North Tollway earlier this month. Doctors told him he might not ever walk again, but two weeks after the accident he was able to walk out of the hospital.

The man says he remembers driving on the highway and seeing the 18-wheeler truck about to fall on top of him. According to police, the truck was speeding when the driver lost control.

Four good Samaritans, including a former nurse, who saw the accident came to his aid and saved his life and his ability to walk.

Five people have been pronounced dead by southern Mississippi police on Wednesday. Law enforcement believe that as many as six cars were involved in an 18-wheeler accident on I-10. Among the dead is a five year-old girl and her 29 year-old mother.

One man was killed, along with his passenger, when his pickup truck ran under the 18-wheeler. Investigators believe this may have been what caused the pileup. A truck driver carrying a horse tractor-trailer died along with a horse. Another driver involved in the wreck was killed when his car exploded on impact. Two survivors are in stable condition at the hospital, including the driver of the 18-wheeler. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the victims in this tragic accident.

A 66-year-old man died in Odessa on Wednesday morning after he was involved in an 18-wheeler accident.

The man had just come from breakfast when he attempted to cross interstate highway 35 at 5:30 a.m. The 18-wheeler hit the man and dragged him for hundreds of yards before stopping. The man was killed instantly.

The driver of the 18-wheeler pulled over to help the man, however, several other cars hit the man as he was lying in the road and continued to drive. The driver has not yet been cited for hitting the man, however, officers are still investigating the accident and believe that speed was a factor.
