Hit-and-run leaves a pedestrian in critical condition

Posted on Friday, October 21st, 2011 at 9:52 pm

A 23-year-old man is said to be in critical condition after he was involved in a hit-and-run.

The accident occurred in Sugar Land, Texas. The 23-year-old man and his wife were on a side road when the car they were traveling in stalled out. Both of them got out of the car and began pushing their vehicle off of the road. While they were outside of their vehicle, an oncoming car crashed into the back of them. The vehicle that caused the accident slid 100 yards away when the driver got out and ran on foot.

The man that was hit was taken by helicopter to a hospital. His wife suffered minor injuries. There is a possibility that the 23-year-old may have to have an arm and a leg amputated.

The driver was detained not far from the accident and arrested. He is being charged with an intoxication assault as well as failure to stop.

Posted on Wednesday, October 12th, 2011 at 10:32 pm

A 14 year-old girl from Bellmead, a suburb outside of Waco, has been accused of a fatal hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a teenage boy. The boy was found on the side of the road, unconscious but breathing, and he later died.

An anonymous tip to the police lead to the girl’s arrest. The girl’s younger sister was supposedly in the car with her; their parents had no idea their daughter had taken their car. Witnesses say they saw the car speeding down Williams Road when it hit the eighth grader and dragged him down the road.

The girl has been charged with manslaughter and is currently in juvenile detention.

Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the young boy who died in this tragic accident.

A 30 year-old man from Texas City faces charges of manslaughter, driving while intoxicated, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. The driver was speeding along Galveston’s seawall when he sped out of control and hit two pedestrians.

Of the two people hit, the 36 year-old man survived and is currently in the hospital, but the 34 year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Witnesses say he was speeding, lost control of his vehicle, and rolled onto the beach.  The man refused sobriety tests at the scene and was taken to a local hospital for a blood test.

His charges could increase once the toxicology results come in and if the man he struck does not survive.

A rollover accident in Socorro, Texas has left one man dead and his passenger in critical condition. Police on the scene believe the driver was drag racing along I-10 when he turned onto an exit ramp going nearly 80 mph. The truck swerved and lost control, causing it to rollover onto the interstate.

Law enforcement closed of a seven mile stretch of I-10 which caused another accident less than an hour later. An alleged drunk driver drove through the road closure signs and rear-ended an empty police cruiser. The driver sustained only minor injuries.

Volkswagen recalls 2011-2012 Jettas

Posted on Tuesday, September 20th, 2011 at 4:44 pm

Another automaker is making headlines for issuing a recall, this time Volkswagen is recalling 30,294 vehicles. 2011-2012 Jetta sedans are being recalled for causing burns on passersby. Several people complained of burning their legs on the hot exhaust pipes after accidentally brushing against them.

After receiving the complaints in July, the car manufacturer conducted an investigation and found that stainless steel exhaust pipe tips installed after importation caused the tips to protrude out farther than original factory-installed tips. The recall will begin in November and Volkswagen will inspect and replace exhaust pipe tips as necessary, free of charge.

Honda and Subaru recall models

Posted on Wednesday, September 14th, 2011 at 8:06 pm

The Honda Motor Co. has issued a recall for nearly 311,000 SUVs and Subaru is recalling more than 500,000 models, according to a statement issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

195,000 Subaru Legacies and Outbacks made between 2010-2011 are being recalled after the manufacturer discovered a possible fire hazard in the wiper motor. If the motor becomes overheated, it may catch fire. Another 295,000 2003-2008 Foresters, 2005-2006 Saab 9-2xes, and 2002-2007 Imprezazs are being recalled after drivers reported that they lost control of their vehicles due to the front control arm breaking.

Honda is recalling 2009-2011 Pilots for a possible safety hazard. The automakers say that the front seatbelts may have missing or incomplete stitching, which could cause it to detach from the anchor webbing. In case of an accident, the seatbelts may not properly protect passengers.

Five die in multi-car crash

Posted on Friday, September 2nd, 2011 at 7:47 pm

Five people have been pronounced dead by southern Mississippi police on Wednesday. Law enforcement believe that as many as six cars were involved in an 18-wheeler accident on I-10. Among the dead is a five year-old girl and her 29 year-old mother.

One man was killed, along with his passenger, when his pickup truck ran under the 18-wheeler. Investigators believe this may have been what caused the pileup. A truck driver carrying a horse tractor-trailer died along with a horse. Another driver involved in the wreck was killed when his car exploded on impact. Two survivors are in stable condition at the hospital, including the driver of the 18-wheeler. The cause of the accident is still under investigation.

Our deepest sympathies are with the family and friends of the victims in this tragic accident.

Porsche recalls sport cars

Posted on Wednesday, August 24th, 2011 at 3:12 pm

Porsche is recalling 887 vehicles worldwide, 235 in the United States. The sports car company says there may be a seat belt defect in the 2011 and 2012 models that could cause them to be too loose and improperly protect drivers and passengers. No injuries or accidents have been reported because of the defect.

The 2011 911 Speedsters and GT3 RS along with the 2012 911 Carreras, 911 Targas, 911 Turbos, Boxsters, and Caymans are the models affected by the recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says only about 10% of Porsche’s two-door coups are affected by the seat belt recall, which is believed to have occurred between May 31 to June 10.

If you believe that a faulty seat belt contributed to your injury, contact the Waco seatbelt defects lawyers of the Law Offices of Vic Feazell, P.C., at 877-948-4842.
