What Are No-Zones?
Every vehicle has specific positions in which the driver is incapable of seeing other vehicles around them in their mirrors. These blind spots are significantly expanded by the size and shape of large trucks. Their blind spots or no-zones can be very large and typically occur in four different positions around the vehicle. The following list indicates the four no-zones on most large trucks:
- Directly in front of a large truck
- Directly behind a large truck
- Directly behind the truck cab on the left side
- Directly behind the truck cab on the right side
As a general rule of practice, if you cannot see the face of a truck driver in his or her rear-view mirrors, then the truck driver cannot see you. Also, the right side no-zone of an eighteen wheeler is an especially dangerous position for other vehicles when the truck makes a turn to the right because of the wide angle of their turns.
